Saving for Health Care

The economy is adversely impacting health benefits provided by all companies especially small business owners.  Employees are forced on their own accord to seek and purchase affordable health insurance.  This is a daunting task for most!

If you find yourself looking for affordable health care, reset expectations.  Trying to find affordable insurance similar to previous employer benefits will be difficult at best.  The individual market does not afford the same cost benefit ratio.  Employers of all sizes have purchasing power to lower the overall cost of insurance premiums.

Consider one solid alternative to traditional high cost insurance - a health savings account.  A health savings account can provide a handful of benefits over traditional plans.  A typical plan will encompass a high deductible and a savings account which stands of offer various tax advantages.

Thinking of switch to a health savings account? Consider the following:

  • By switching from a high cost policy with a low deductible to a low cost policy with a high deductible, you can save thousands in premiums per year!

  • Transfer all the money saved from lower premiums into a special tax sheltered health savings account aka HAS.  You will save even more money because all the transferred funds are considered a tax write-off.  This is considered a win-win.

  • Withdraw money from the account to pay for medical bills throughout the year.  Keep in mind, this is tax-free money and creates another win-win situation.

If you are hit with a large medical expense, you should be covered under you high deductible plan.  Note: you are covered once your terms of service have been met, etc.

What happens to the money that you do not use?  This is the great part – it is yours!  The money will stay in the account and continue to reap the benefits on a tax free basis.  This is very similar to a IRA and considered to be the greatest benefit.

Why pay heavy, costly premiums on an annual basis when you can stock-pile the money yourself?  The money will continue to rollover and will be there when you need it!
