Cheap Cholesterol Care

This is my attempt to explain the importance of cholesterol in easy to understand terms.  I am not a doctor but have research the topic at length to empower myself to make better decisions regarding my personal need to find affordable heart health care.

A simply blood test will result in a total cholesterol count.  The total count is used in part by doctors to identify potential risk to your heart’s health.  Many years ago, the total count was a vague indicator, but today technology has advanced to offer much better indicators known as HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol).  In addition, new test exist to further identify risk factors specific to LDL known in part as LDL-P.

Rather than get into the details behind the numbers, I will simply focus on the affordable health care for your heart.  Any numbers you may gather regarding your cholesterol should be shared with your doctor or clinic representative for additional guidance.  With that stated, your doctor may recommend diet, exercise and/or medication to lower your cholesterol.

If you are looking for affordable health care related to your heart, the most cost effective method is diet and exercise.  If diet and exercise are not enough to lower your cholesterol, medication might be needed.  Keep in mind, many cholesterol lowering drugs are derived from herbal extracts, so if you are hurting for cash, ask your doctors for low cost alternatives.

If you research alternative supplements, you will find a handful of options but understand the risks - primarily, herbal supplements are not regulated which means they are not monitor. Taking a supplement that is not monitored may save you money, but obvious risks are presented. Research 'red yeast rice' and you will see what I mean. In the end, if your doctor recommends statins (a general classification for cholesterol lowering drugs), ask him or her for generics – this will surely save you money.

Finding affordable health care is not easy and for some, failing to do so, might place them at greater risk.  Look for free cholesterol screenings which many clinics and/or health care agencies will offer.  Take your health serious.  When you have a headache, you feel pain which tells you to take action (aspirin, relaxation, etc.).  When you have high cholesterol, you feel nothing but it may come back to haunt you down the road.
